Jean LAPOUGE is no other than the leader of French Progressive rock band NOETRA, well known for its Canterbury School and classical music influences. The guitar player now introduces the listener to his solo works, as played by a jazz quartet. He's helped by Claude PABOEUF (Oboe & vibraphone), Mikko FONTAINE (Drums) and Jean-François BERCE (Double-bass). "Hauts Plateaux" (1993) can be placed in a musical vein not unlike some ECM's and OREGON’s productions: a smooth jazz, airy and fluid. Guitar soli are crystal clear, oboe’s parts full of serenity, the rhythm section is subtle and refined. Not to be missed !
