Coming from the open-minded nature of the French music industry, Doos flexibility and musical tenacity are the results of her astute cultural upbringing. The country is one of the largest supporters of international music forms, offering major funding for such seemingly disparate genres as Algerian räi, reggae, African and Spanish folk, mixed with homegrown chanson, hip-hop, electronica and Parisian lounge/jazz. Doos Euro-influences are heavy throughout, whether in the Bristol-based trip-hop scene or entirely English lyrics. With such smart studio moves and smooth musical movement, she is a stealth creature in a land of excessive opportunity. With the stateside release of Cold Shower, Doo is set to become an international household name. By inviting us into the inner terrain of her soul we unknowingly, and happily, invite her into our own.
Product Description
Doo - the multi-faceted singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer first exposed on European movie soundtracks - makes her American debut with Cold Shower. Ranging from nearly impossible whispers to startling, at times chilling highs, Doo (pronounced "Doe", short for Dorothy in French) touches upon the entire range of human emotion in a mere 54 minutes on her debut. Cold Shower, a testament to the potential of self-realization through sound, will be released domestically on October 4th on Le Maquis/Disques Dreyfus.
Not limited to the microphone, Doo is equally comfortable on the other side of the vocal booth. She wrote or co-wrote and arranged 10 of the 11 songs, as well as playing the acoustic guitar, Fender Rhodes, programming, and co-producing the entirety of Cold Shower. Her soft, sometimes eerie touch underlies the rhythmic foundation and jazzy undertones and light ballads interspersed with heartbroken poetry sit between trip-hop beats and blaring guitars. For Doo, canvassing sonic worlds is as easy as switching automobile gears. Yet the entire backdrop is but a sturdy foundation for Cold Showers center piece: the lush textures of her voice.
