CharacterZ are Chris Carusos and Bud Drago as well as a galaxy of rotating musicians, depending upon the song. Chris has been raised on the blues and power rock, counting among his heroes, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Robert Johnson. The sound has always been what is uppermost in Chris’ mind when writing, recording or producing a track. Listen to the upfront slide guitar on Vroom Vroom or the wah wah used on Apple Pie to understand the importance guitar plays in the music. On the other hand, spend some time with When They’re Bleeding to hear a glimpse of Chris’ soul.
Bud comes from another, alternative, pop world (yes – lots of people who know him would second that opinion) and focuses on looking at the way things are through very strange glasses. Lyrics to many of the CharacterZ songs reflect his somewhat distorted view of the world. Listen to the brooding My Girlfriend is a Reptile or the wistful One Hit Wonder. Open your ears to Nasty Plan which recalls Orson Welles’ War of the World or the playful Blah Blah. Bud also shows a serious side on songs such as The Answer Is Yes and I’ll Bet You’ll Be At My Funeral. Among his influences are Elvis Costello, Randy Newman, John Hiatt, John Lennon and George Harrison.
