Editorial Reviews
Growing up just outside of Washington D.C., the Beatles, Queen, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and the Who provided the musical score to Daniels childhood. Though having much exposure to family musical instruments, it wasnt until age 14 that music became a passion after his Uncle introduced him to the electric guitar. In high school he joined a cover band to perform at a talent show, then began writing music with friends in an experimental punk project, the Completes. "The Violent Femmes and the Cult were influences in our writing," recalls Daniel, "but as a guitarist, I was heavily into Steve Vai, Richie Sambora and Steve Stevens, whose work with Billy Idol still inspires me."
While attending college in Daytona Beach, Florida, Daniel began writing and recording on his own. With the influences of Nine Inch Nails and Ministry, drum machines and keyboards provided the music behind his guitar and vocal work. After moving to West Palm Beach, a handful of songs existed he felt were worth sharing. It was then that he found a band needing a guitar and a voice and RavensBlind was born. For two years this 3-piece entity jammed throughout South Florida with a sound that came to be known as "Alterna-Goth" from its dark moods and edgy hard rock sound.
Shortly after the band broke up, Daniel put together his previous solo demos as well as some new recordings and created a full-length album on his own, keeping the RavensBlind name. With limited marketing and expenses, albums were distributed worldwide and featured on major radio stations in the US, Chile, Belgium and Yugoslavia, where on Radio Politica, the album appeared at number 5 in their top 20. Much success was also found on internet radio where two singles peaked in the top 20 on mp3.com and one single found its way to number 1 on the Gothic Jukebox. During this time, Daniel also worked on music for two independent films.
