The Blood Drained Cows' debut disc is mastered to sound like it's a scratchy record. The New Mexico-based band, fronted by former Angry Samoans cofounder Gregg Turner, play swampy surf punk in the vein of the Cramps or Los Straightjackets--heavy in bottom-end tremelo, lyrical sneering, and the supersized adrenaline-rush departments. The testosterone fury on this debut includes highlights like the tongue-in-cheek "Medication (The Actifed Song)" and a gritty cover of the 13th Floor Elevators' classic "You're Gonna Miss Me." This is the kind of music that usually ends up annoying mothers, wives, and girlfriends, leaving the guys alone to talk cars and rock out. --Jason Josephes
