About the Artist
The band formed in mid 2001 as certain twists of fate brought these five friends from each other’s past together to form the heart of CalmInSight. Each member brings a passion and flair for music that is pure and true. Nick, Slap, Steve, Jedd, and Phil have a set of beliefs that they are not willing to compromise for the sake of appeasing pop culture. The band as a whole feels that the music should speak for itself and the lyrics should have a message. These beliefs ring out loud and clear on the band’s debut LP "Realistically Speaking." Nick, the bands lyricist and singer, states "let’s face it, no one likes to feel inferior, so why tell someone what they believe is wrong only to turn around and have someone else tell you the same thing. No matter how much you’d rather do without them, you are going to have a fair share of opinions thrown at you from all directions. Most, if not all of these opinions are backed up by theories that are only relative to the indivi! dual’s situation. This conflict of interest is everywhere, including the music scene we have all grown accustomed to, no matter what style or genre your ear falls on. Some people may not look that deep into what the band is trying to say, they might just like the way it sounds and how it makes them feel. That is perfectly fine, no one is the wiser." CalmInSight is aware that their audience spans the spectrum of those who understand and those who just enjoy the music. The release of "Realistically Speaking" represents this understanding. The entire album has a strong sense of energy and emotion and is a solid representation of their own observations. The album is fast paced from start to finish and makes you anxious to hear what comes next. "Realistically Speaking" reminiscent of some earlier D.C. hardcore and early emo bands like "Minor Threat" and "Rites of Spring" and fuses in melody, encoding the sound CalmInSight has grown into. Commonly being categorized as "punk" doesn’t seem to bother the band either. "Punk is a broad term" states Steve, one of the band’s guitarists, "it means something different to anyone you ask." CalmInSight’s live show has given a new perspective on energy, playing their hearts out anywhere they can plug in and creating an ever growing fan base. The band hardly ever turns down a chance to play no matter what the circumstances are. These five guys from the suburbs of Philly are trying to show the world what there music means to them and they want you to listen.
