Product Description
This 2-CD set is a celebration of the 1951-53 jump blues early years of Little Richard Penniman before he hit big. What more can be said about this man? He was a legend and one of the key architects of rock 'n' roll. Born in Macon, Georgia, and third of 12 children, Richard Wayne Penniman, like many of the great African American musicians, began his singing career in the church and by 1951 he had signed a recording contract with RCA, after having won a local talent contest. Legend has it that one day, on his way home from work as a dishwasher, he sent a demo tape in to Specialty Records, the important Los Angeles-based label; the song "Tutti Frutti" was on that tape-of course it became just one in a long string of incredible hits. Little Richard's first sessions are collected here and include "All Night Long," "Kansas City," "Directly From My Heart," "Long Tall Sally," "Slippin' And Slidin'," "Tutti Frutti" and many more!
