One Hand Clapping

Editorial Reviews

Mike Joyce, Washington Post, March 12, 1999
Singer-songwriter Brian Wagoner's words and wordplay help distinguish Underfoot from much of the competition, creating a series of alternately, defiant, sensual, surreal vignettes that sometimes capitalize on the vocal characteristics he shares with [Michael] Stipe and, to a lesser degree, Dave Matthews without overdoing it. Meanwhile, the densely textured guitar-bass drums arrangements, replete with resonating drones, acoustic filigree, funk effects and spacey interludes, helps keeps things interesting...

Product Description
Underfoot defies genre labeling, attracting a diverse crowd looking for a message in their music. Described as "hauntingly beautiful with a killer groove" and "provocative and vibrant beat poetry for the 21st Century," One Hand Clapping is a culmination of songs recorded live at venues on the East Coast and two studio tracks, which happen to be the first and last songs on the album. The songs range from the heavy acoustic of "Gravity" (one of the new studio tracks) to the atmospheric painting of "the Desert."
