CD Reviews
With the release of their debut A Sense Of Direction, Jackalope Junction have produced an album of emotion, elegance, and unforgettable songs. Right from the opening strains of their first track, the mounting jam "To Wander In This Way" to the jumpin' at the roadhouse flavor of "Louisiana," this is primer for Northern boys on how to sound "down-home pleasing." Though the standout moments are many, best tracks include the boogie shuffle of "Four Wheels," the romantic yet suited-for-the-dance-hall "Savannah Rose," and the lonesome wistfulness of "Never Sung A Love Song." Songwriter Dave Isaacs shines throughout, showing a command of all the subgenres of the country sound. He's a smart lyricist; when you listen to the songs a few times, you really begin to realize how perfectly the words are matched to melodies. Like the man who builds his own house, solid construction is just not enough...everything is polished and smoothed out, every fill and flourish carefully laid out and executed wonder.
