Shalom Berlinskis voice, at the peak of his art, is as much at ease performing the grand arias of Western Europes Ashenazi liturgy as it is with the Hasidic melodies of Eastern Europe.
Product Description
Shalom Berlinski was cantor at the Synagogue de la Victoire, the largest in France, from 1948-1979. Officiating at all liturgical and formal ceremonies, he represented the voice of French Ashkenazi Judaism for more than 30 years.
Berlinski is the story of a living memory. His life weaves together individual events with the history of the period and illustrates the intricacy of a certain French Judaism created in the full bloom of the Enlightenment.
This album represents a rare anthology, bringing together recordings made by Shalom Berlinski in 1972 with the Colonne Orchestra conducted by Jean-Paul Kreder, and a mixed 32-voice choir from Radio France.
