On first listen, this may seem like just another light, jazz-roots-fusionexercise. But as you dig deeper, you find that Uruguayan percussionist Rada has a lot to say, and says it with a skill and passion that's hard to deny. He digs around in the world beat attic and pulls out some interesting artifacts; candomble, hard jazz and Latin tinges seem to be his main interests. Some of the music here is as sweet as sugar, but like many good Brazilian albums, there's more than immediately reaches the surface, with some unexpected twists and subtle underlying complexities allowing the music to grow, ever so slowly, on your unsuspecting subconscious. --Louis Gibson
