"A cool summer breeze mixed with a gentle rain are the images I get when I hear the opening song on Sacred Fire, a new CD that was written, produced and recorded by Steve Schiavi, Brooke Schiavi and David Allen at Wolfsongs/Cherokee Productions. As program coordinator and host of "Music From The Turtles Back" on RBC 91.5 FM in Lewiston, Maine I am always amazed by the many ways a song can be created. The challenge of producing any music that blends ancient native instruments with modern instruments is notable. Sacred Fire has captured the essence of both the old and the new world of music without sacrificing the integrity of either. "East" reminds me of simpler times as it sooths the soul. "South" is mood inspiring using guitar, Love Flute and keyboard. Just when I thought it could not get better a man's voice begins to chant and my heart quickens. "South" is a prayer song that he sings in the 'Vocables' style. His words are in the tongue of the heart, a language only Spirit can understand but our hearts can feel. "Earth" has an essence of power and force. The earth force beneath our feet, always there and waiting for us to listen to her music. Sacred Fire is a commanding example of the new emerging Native voice finding its way into mainstream society via record companys like Wolfsongs/Cherokee Productions.
