About the Artist
Shubhebdra Rao - From a young age, Shubhendra showed a great talent for music. His father, N.R.Rama Rao, a noted disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar initiated him into the intricacies of the sitar. Shubhendra was fortunate to receive the guidance from the maestro himself from the outset. At the age of 18, Shubhendra moved to Delhi to live with and learn from his Guru in the true Guru-Shishya tradition. The years that followed were a period of introspective and creative metamorphisis. His Guru nurtured his talents, and gave him a deep insight into what it entails to become a complete artiste, as only he could. An important part of his learning was accompanying his Guru in solo concerts and orchestras like Live in Kremlin and Ghanashyam in the UK. Shubhendra has performed at the Doverlane Conference in Kolkotta, Harvallabh Sangeet Mahasabha in Jullandhar, Shankarlal Festival and the Gunidas Sammelan at New Delhi, the Vasantahabba Festival at Bangalore, the Saptak Festival at Ahmedabad, besides other major music venues of India. Theatre de la ville at Paris, the WOMAD festival in Guernsey, England......Shubhendra has performed at some of the most prestigious venues of the world. His international tours have taken him to the USA, Canada, Europe and many Asian countries. A regular performer on radio and the national television, he is one of the very few artistes to have been invited to audition by All India Radio and given an 'A' Grade.

Saskia Rao-de Haas - Saskia Rao-de Haas introduces a new sound in the world of Indian classical music. A brilliant cellist from the Netherlands, she has modified the cello to perform north Indian classical music. With a strong foundation in western classical and Indian classical music, critics and audiences worldwide have received her music with great enthusiasm.

While completing her master's in ethnomusicology from the university of Amsterdam, Saskia's love for Indian classical music took her to the conservatory of Rotterdam to study under Koustav Ray and Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia. With no precedent to follow, Saskia has worked with singular dedication to adapt the cello to Indian classical music. Her playing style enables her to bring out the subtleties and the embellishments characteristic of north Indian classical music. She has incorporated new techniques that allow her to nurture the inherent closeness of the cello to the human voice and to explore unrestrained, the brilliance of her instrument.
