About the Artist
Awakening Queen Maebh Inspired by the legends of Avalon, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Elizabeth Pendleton draws from the abundant realms of Celtic myth and music to create her sound. Pendleton’s project, Awakening Queen Maebh, sets the rich traditions of Irish, Scottish and Welsh music (harp, fiddle and mandolin) into a contemporary context (electric guitar, MIDI keyboard and drum loops). A student of the Irish-Gaelic language, Pendleton also sings her work in both Irish and English. On naming her project after an ancient Celtic goddess native to the west of Ireland (an Iron-Age political figure and earlier mythical one), Pendleton says, "I’m inspired by such an enduring feminine presence, and I welcome her essence to our age, a time when strong feminine archetypes and role models are once again honored." To date Pendleton’s work has primarily been a studio endeavor, and "Hey Dublin/A Bhleá Cliath" is the first single from the project.
