About the Artist
Ragashanti, a.k.a. Dr. Kingsley Stewart, is known in Jamaica for his remarkable coming-of-age life story where he evolved from the brutal streets of Kingston, Jamaica, boys' homes and jails, to obtaining his doctorate (Ph.D.) in anthropology. He "grew up" in Jamaica's Dancehall culture and states that Dancehall reggae is a dominant part of his identity. His new CD, "ghetto oven", reflects many of the simplicities and complexities that make up his worldview, which is heavily influenced by Dancehall.
Product Description
"Ghetto Oven", Ragashanti's debut CD, is an eclectic mix of 15 diverse Dancehall Reggae songs that are cooked in the flavor of traditional, Jamaican folk melodies. The songs are inspirational, controversial, fun-filled, provocative, sometimes just plain weird, and often easily misunderstood. "Ghetto Oven" guides you (and sometimes drags you) along the different pathways of the Dancehall Reggae experience.
