Editorial Reviews
Listening to "Island of the Sun", you quickly grow to appreciate the eclectic influences of Patrices upbringing. Couched in an air of Hawaiian harmonies with a contemporary background of motown, reggae, and the writing styles reminiscent of Roy Orbison and early Beatles. You are quickly lulled and transported into her spell, all the while caught with your foot tapping.
Patrice Kaohi was born on Oahu, and began her development as an artist in the campus clubs of the University of Hawaii. From there she began singing in the local restaurants and hotels. In the 90s she made her home in Northern California.
Some years later an individual from Europe figured out that lots of folks were primed to hear the scene that Patrice was making. Her first CD was recorded in Northern California. And never absent, and ever magical is the story of its creation. "I was left a message at the local grocery store, urging me to call collect a man in Europe. Ten days, after my wish on a star.....".
