About the Artist
The Chabot Panhandlers began in 1987 when Jim Munzenrider, a professional musician and one of the original founding members of the popular steel drum group, "Pan Ramajay," took his passion for steel drums, (or "pan" as it is referred to in the instruments birthplace, Trinidad) to the classroom of Chabot Community College in Hayward, California. From these humble beginnings, Jim has created one of the premier steel bands in the US.

This premier ensemble has performed with a host of great artists in pan and calypso music. The list includes world-renowned pannists, Andy Narell, Ray Holman, Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, Jeff Narell, Tom Miller and Pan Ramajay. Popular Calypso singers, David Rudder and "Crazy," both from Trinidad round out the list of some the group’s spotlight performances over the years.

The intoxicating rhythms of this ensemble, which may perform with as many as 35 members at a time, capture the audience in their spell wherever they perform.

The band bounces with excitement on calypso numbers, sways through Latin-tinged arrangements, glides through pop tunes and gives a gentle treatment to the occasional ballad within their performances.
