About the Artist
J.P.

Born as Jean-Pierre Marc-Charles January 2, 1978 in Detroit MI. J.P. was raised in long Island NY by his mother who is Haitian. Although being raised in the Catholic faith he realized by his teenage years there was another path for him. J.P. is an artist who blends elements of dancehall reggae and hip hop music to help forward a conscience vibe to the massive in a sing type chant vocal style. At the age of 15 J.P. his mom, and younger brother, rapper Kast-A-Way moved from south Florida to San Antonio TX. He grew a love for dancehall music before leaving the east coast so much that he felt he had to do it himself. J.P. began collaborating with various underground hip-hop artist and groups in the city. By the age of 16 J.P. began performing, producing, and recording in San Antonio. In 1997 he released his first project Sound Stress adjustments, which received airplay on commercial and college radio 96.1 KSJL and 90.1 KSYM. By this time J.P. was in college studying and learning more about Rastafari than algebra, which would influence his life and music from then on. During this time he played mostly local shows and also featured with steel drummer Ras Inginga in Bob Marley reggae fest held in an Austin. Soon after this he began playing guitar and other instruments to help increase his production skills. By the year 2000 felt the artist moved to the island of Kauai Hi and stayed with friends there. He played local bands and released a cd called Brothers Keeper, which received airplay on commercial station KONG, and community station program the reggae train. 2001 J.P. returned back to San Antonio and started his independent label Lion Sound Records and released an E.P. entitled hydroponic in remembrance of his farming days in Hawaii. The same year he featured in Bob Marley Fest in San Antonio and other TX cities. Also collaborated with hip-hop groups like the greenfeens and opened up for rapper lil keke. While flowing in rhapsody studio caught the attention of engineer and then later ended up on the title track of Michael Knight’s AKA A-gee "Hardest wood outha the forest" which has been released nationally by AMC records. 2002 the artist made the decision to relocate back to south Florida in Miami to release his new cd Peaks and Valleys, which is now available at Email: jplionsound@yahoo.com Phone:305-254-7359
