Product Description
While, as the title suggests, the compilation primarily focuses on Calypso, also included are a number of similarly styled Mento & Jump-Up sides from some of Jamaica's most respected performers. These are most evident on the first disc that features 17 fascinating sides from an array of Jamaican talent, from Toots & The Maytals to Tommy McCook Disc 2 begins in much the same vein as before highlighting a selection of superior Trinidadian sounds from the 60s & early 70s, while the final disc features recordings by some of the most talented British-based Calypso artists, cut for the Pye & Nixa labels in the mid to late 50s. Quite simply, there has never been a more comprehensive or enjoyable introduction to the much over-looked styles that fall under the Calypso umbrella. Digibox. 2002.
