About the Artist
In 1954, the gentle trade winds of the Caribbean carried the beautiful sounds of steel drum music to the shores of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. There to welcome that sound was a Il year old named Tom Reynolds. Tom acquired the art 01 making pan from the Hell's Gate Steel Band which had originated in Antigua. In 1957, he formed his first Steelband called the 'Moonshiners'. While attending school on Puerto Rico he formed another group, 'Tommy Rey and His Caribe Steel Band'. In 1960, he took this band and left for New York City where, in 1964, they were featured at the Caribbean Pia villi on of the Worlds Fair. It was during this time that Tom released his first steel drum album, "Tommy Rey". The reality of trying to make a living playing ~n hit Tom in the late sixties, forcing him to take his musical talents into the arena of Rock and Roll. In the early seventies, after playing with a few groups, Tom formed his own group, 'Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds'. The group reached the top of the Billboard chart, with two number one songs; "Don't Pull Your Love Out", and "Baby Baby Falling in Love". After Tom's accomplishments in Rock and Roll music, he went back to his real desire; to make and play the pan. Since the middle seventies Tom has put a total eltort into these areas achieving nothing less than the same results that he has always experienced with his musical talents. Utilizing his many talents, Tom writes and arranges music, and is an accomplished vocalist and guitarist. The talents of Tom Reynolds have culminated beautifully in "Island Memories".
