Tell Mambo

Editorial Reviews

From Rhythm Magazine
This French salsa band plays music that's Gallic smooth rather than Latin hot, stirring Gypsy elements, North African rao and other ingredients into the Afro-Cuban mix. Leader J.F. "Oscar" Hammel (vocals, maracas and timbales) calls his style "salsaioli"-half salsa, half aioli, the tangy garlic mayonnaise of Hammel's native southern France. The opening "Souris Blanche" jumps right at you, with montuno, chorus and even a rap section, while "Amedee" starts out as a bolero and segues into a cha-cha-cha. --Sule Greg Wilson
