When the Swiss band Cojazz formed in 1988, it consisted of pianist Andy Scherrer, bassist Eric Peter, and drummer and TCB labelhead Peter Schmidlin. They performed regularly as a trio and as a backing band for American expatriot singers Alice Day and Ann Malcolm. They recorded one album of straightahead jazz, Cojazz, Volume One, in 1990. Then Eric Peter died, and was replaced by bassist Stephan Kurmann. About this time, Cojazz decided to add percussionist Willy Kotoun. Thus began Cojazz Plus. Cojazz Plus, Volume Two finds the band playing standards and originals, as well as a tribute to Eric Peter.
