The Ron Kearns Quintet is an acoustic jazz combo merging the styles of early bebop groups with the more modern sound of the early Jazz Crusaders. This current quintet has been performing together for two years and this marks their first recording together.

This recording is an acoustic jazz recording in the bebop, hard bop style. The frontline consists of an alto sax and trombone with piano, bass, drums and vibes. Ron Kearns is on alto sax, John Jensen, trombone, Larry Brown, piano, Kent Miller, bass, Mike Smith, drums and special guest, Tim Collins.

Montpelier is one of the most historic landmarks in Maryland and has some of the best acoustics for jazz recordings in the United States. Other artists who have recorded there include Sir Roland Hanna, Ronnie Wells, Keter Betts and Ron Holloway. This is Ron's second live recording, his first was Live at Blues Alley (Washington, DC)
