Jazz, along with rock & roll, is considered to be one of the most truly American genres of music. But in the 1930's, while still in its infancy, jazz was not looked upon as a serious art for: at best, jazz was thought of as light entertainment for the black community. In Europe, however, and especially in Paris, the literary and artistic community immediately embraces "this crazy hot new music" from America. Records and information were traded, an underground community of jazz-lovers began to grow, and Hot Club de France was born.
MIlan Records has waded through the HCF recordings to discover gems spanning 30 years. Digitally restored and remastered, these recordings can now be heard with the brilliance and emotion in a way unlike ever before. This record presents a glimpse into American Jazz music in Paris, capturing some of the most remarkable moments that defined jazz music for decades there, and in fact, defined jazz music for the world.
