" A genuinely high-level, genuinely unrecognized jazz pianist a bebopper and a ballad player who was exceptionally talented." - NEW YORK TIMES
Pianist Frank Hewitt, who passed away in 2002 at age 66, has emerged posthumously from the underground to be heralded by critics in the major jazz press and increasingly in mainstream media as one of the greatest jazz pianists to have lived! Hewitt performed 2-3 times weekly at Smalls for over eight years. The title of this album refers to his regular Saturday quintet engagement. Chris Byars is also leader of The Chris Byars Octet, and co-leader with Ari Roland of Across 7 Street. Ari Roland was Hewitts only regular bassist, and he is the only young bassist who can walk a line with the impeccable swing of a Blanton or Pettiford.
