About the Artist
This unique trio has won many hearts over the last year. Its intimate, quiet but extremely tasteful music has found many admirers through their concerts and not the least through their first album The Night and the Daydreamer. The group has performed on several large scale festivals and radio programs. All three band members bring in compositions leading to a well mixed cocktail of styles and influences. After years of heavy blowing in Big Bands from (a.o.) Frank Grasso, Jeff Reynolds, Big Band Braam, Groove Troopers, (Mingus ) Epitaph and The Concertgebouw as well as in groups like The Houdinis and Corrie & de grote Brokken, trumpeter Angelo Verploegen had the urge to participate in smaller bands like his trio Tois. Besides that, he wanted to return to the sweeter, softer tone of the Fluegelhorn, the instrument on which Verploegen started in the brass band of his native town Oss in Holland. With The Amsterdam Jazz Trio he investigates the play abilities of the fluegelhorn and muted trumpet, accompanied by guitarist Ed Verhoeff and bassist Eric van der Westen. The core characteristics of this band is the intimate, acoustic blending sound of the fluegelhorn, guitar and double bass. The repertoire of The Amsterdam Jazz Trio consists of originals, besides that they also borrow, in a playful way, songs from the American Songbook For guitarist Ed Verhoeff The Amsterdam Jazz Trio offers an excellent opportunity to use the acoustic guitar a little more often and develop his tasteful electric sound even further. Expanding his steps with Hein van de Geyns Bassline in which he replaced John Abercrombie ,and Mathilde Santing plus his own quartet EDition. The combination of eclectic taste, solid craftsmanship and solo virtuosity makes bassist Eric van der Westen the ultimate addition for this drum less trio. Van der Westen showed named qualities extensively
Product Description
The album contains 9 studio recorded originals. All pieces are an example of how to use space and movement in drumless jazz. It's relaxing music; the beautiful sound of the flugelhorn sings over a warm tapistry of guitar and bass with lots of space and suggested rhythm. It's music you can use to win over non-jazz lovers. Sometimes it relates to Kenny Wheeler's music or maybe even to Chet Baker but it is definitly European. Included are 2 live pieces recorded at the Hakuju Open Night in Tokyo Japan. Here appears a standard You And The Night And The Music plus the titlesong of the first album The Night And The Daydreamer. What the band achieves on album they can also do live for it's just beautiful music.
