Stan Getz Live [Live]

Editorial Reviews

From the Label
Stan Getz Live is a continuation of a new tradition at MIDEM (the record industry's international convention) - a performance and recording of major jazz artists. In order to provide the audience of record executives with a show worthy of their attention, many factors must be considered; artists availability, contractual commitments for recording, transportation and costs, musical and amplification equipment, recording equipment and musical content. The whole process is further complicated by the fact that all production details are arranged in the United States for a single performance show in Cannes, France.

This concert with Stan Getz delighted the sophisticated audience at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes. Stan traveled from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, taking leave from a gig and arrived in Cannes with his musicians Andy, Leverne, Brian Bloomberg, Chuck Loeb, and Victor Loeb. The show and recording session were on the same evening they arrived. The show's form and substance took shape at the rehearsal. Jean Claude Ast, the French assistant producer, orchestrated the complex rehearsal schedule with musicians and technical people staying at dozens of hotels in Cannes.

A twenty-four track mobile unit from Paris was brought to Cannes for the recording. With so much talent and money (and reputations) riding on a single performance, it was a nightmare when the electrical system in the recording truck failed prior to the show. The quick and professional work of Studio Davout, recording contractor for the show, relieved the fears of disaster. The performance speaks for itself. Enjoy Stan Getz Live!
