HERB SILVERSTEIN, MD (piano)
An ear surgeon by day, a budding composer and pianist by night, Dr. Herb continues to build his sand castle, grain by grain as he creates musical gifts for all to hear. Each of his CDs is a way to bring awareness of the beauty of sound, and the reason for his fund-raising efforts. His hope is that someday research will find the answers to deafness and all will be able to enjoy these same sounds. In the past 21 years, Silverstein has focused his musical talents on the specialty of jazz piano and composing.
Product Description
Once again, Sarasota's Doctor of Ears, Herb Silverstein and his Trio, along with two other extremely talented pianists, Mike Markaverich and Michael Royal, have created a masterpiece recording that helps give the gift of sound. Pulling together these three artistic players to produce a special night of jazz was the brainstorm of Ken Parsons, a previous jazz jockey and now restaurateur. Collaborative efforts with The Plaza Steakhouse and Wine Cellar's owners; Rafael Gonzalez, Nick Bonfrere, Mark Forlenza and James Chandler, along with Gerri Laurino and Chef Trey Place, birth was given to a win-win menu of sensory combination--hearing and taste. In true restaurant tradition that Trey knows so well, the perfect blend was concocted--a blend that appeals to all who tune in. Thus created, Hear at the Plaza...gives the listener a delicious assortment of talent, creatively displayed and produced to please even the most finicky palate.
Each of the pianists master in his own domain, much like the chef in his own kitchen. Dr. Herb may play piano by night, but by day he is a master of ear surgery and related diseases. He's been up and down the keyboard in a jazzy way for the last twenty years. Classically trained as a youth, music took a back seat when medical school started that drive forward. His jazz dreams have since become reality and continue to be a source of joy and inspiration for him as well as a wonderful fund-raider and awareness booster for the Ear Research Foundation. Michael Royal, one of Sarasota's brightest jazz talents was classically trained by Jacques Abrams. His romantic jazz piano style demonstrates polished colquence woven with mature simplicity. Today he inspires many with his mellifluous and melodies and masterful touch. Mike Markaverich tinkered with a toy piano at three and essentially never let go! His BA in music (with distinction) is from Dartmouth College and his Masters in Music Theory and History is from The University of New Hampshire. Mike is well known entity both in Florida and up and down the Eastern seaboard.
