About the Artist
Born and raised in Chicago Illinois, Skinny Williams began his musical career while still in his teens. Being 6'4" and 180 lbs. and often referred to as 'that skinny sax player' and later just" Skinny", Williams performed with various dance/R&B bands, the high school marching band and orchestra, and the All City Jazz Band. He honed his musical chops at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After returning to Chicago, he eventually joined Junior Wells and The Chicago Blues All Stars and toured the world performing along with Buddy Guy, B.B. King, and Bo Diddley. After leaving the Junior Wells band, Williams taught general music in the Chicago public schools. While performing nights and weekends, the demands for his talents grew and he left his teaching position to again become a full time musician. Leading his own band and playing in various dance bands around Chicago, Skinny auditioned for comedian/actor Bernie Mac. Heaccepted the position as saxophonist of the Mac Men for the HBO variety show, Midnight Mac with Bernie Mac, backing up an array of artists including Chaka Khan, George Duke, Brian McKnight, Sugar Blue, Sheila E. and Art Porter. From this association formed the Chicago Storm Horns, which went on to join the classic old-school funk band The Ohio Players. After a short stint with the Ohio Players Skinny returned home to work on his first solo recordi! ng Skinny Swings followed by The Skinny Williams Trio , Saint James Infirmary, and then HereToMakeYouHappy(preview) a sampler of the upcoming cd featuring originals and arrangements by him. The Skinny Williams group performs Fridays at Joe's Bebop Café at Chicago's Navy Pier.

This recording was inspired by five guys that performed weekly at a Jazz nightclub in Chicago. Their performances were so inspirational and so well appreciated they recorded the crowds most requested songs. Led by saxophonist Skinny Williams, whose playing on this recording is reminiscent of Sam Butera of Louis Prima's band and suggestive of the late King Curtis, this cd is a mixture of "Jump Swing" songs the crowd loved to dance to, with a few standards thrown in for good measure. Great solos from the whole band. This ones an energetic toe-tapper.
