About the Artist
MS. HAMANAKA, a Native New Yorker and third generation Japanese American sang with Lionel Hampton, Joyspring, Chris Anderson, Walter Booker, Frank Gant, Ron McClure, Bruce Edwards, Kuni Mikami, Mark McGowan, Dexter Gordon, Doc Cheatham etc. Appeared at various festivals, colleges and many clubs. PIANISTS: DON FRIEDMAN- from San Francisco, exquisite lyricism and drive; played w/Booker Little, Clark Terry, Buddy De Franco, Pharoah Sanders, etc., now leads own trio.

KENNY GATES- from Brooklyn, New York, now in Phillie, played w/Jr. Cook, Bill Hardman, duo with bassist Jimmy Merritt at the Prime Rib; venues - Mellon Festival, radio, etc.

JEB PATTON - studied with Roland Hanna and at Queens, where he came to the attention of Jimmy Heath, whom he now works with. Has played many festivals and concerts.

DRUMMERS: FRANK GANT- from the Detroit circle, played w/Barry Harris, Maynard Ferguson, Ahmad Jamal, George Coleman, Miles Davis, played all major venues and many festivals. BRUCE COX - young lion, NYC.

BASS: RON MCCLURE-a Connecticut Yankee, played w/Wynton Kelly, Charles Lloyd, Monk, Sarah Vaughan, .

TRUMPETS: JOE WILDER-from Philadelphia, father well known trumpeter and cornetist; played w/Billie Holiday, Count Basie, several cds as a leader, performed various symphony orchestras, Broadway shows, etc.

WILLIAM FIELDER - from Mississippi, studied in Chicago with Hertszoff, played w/ Slide Hampton, Mulgrew Miller, Barry Harris, Prof at Rutgers who taught Wynton Marsalis and Terence Blanchard.

MARK MCGOWAN - from Oakland, went to Columbia University, played w/Lionel Hampton, Illinois Jacquet, Panama Francis, Joey Cavesena.

SAX: ROLAND ALEXANDER-w/Kioni Zuwadi, Jazzmobile.
