About the Artist
Wendell Harrison has had an illustious and colorful career. He left Detroit at the age of 19 and played with artists as varied as Sun Ra and Hank Crawford. Wendell returned to Detroit in the early 1970s and founded the Tribe. The Tribe was the Detroit analogue to St. Louis' BAG and Chicago's AACM. The Tribe represented black self-actualization at a time when the community needed it most. Since then, Wendell has recorded with his clarinet ensemble and Eddie Harris.
