Editorial Reviews
"It's a challenge to play the music of another musician, and even more so when that musician happens to be a giant of your own instrument. Even though Wes seems to be the guitarist against whom all others are most often measured, it's my feeling that Wes's ability to communicate such a wide emotional range, his uniqueness and finally even his success, all demonstrate clearly that the ultimate goal for any one of us is to develop our own approach, our own style, our own way."
~ Joshua Breakstone
Product Description
This is a quality album, a tribute to Wes Montgomery by Joshua Breakstone who plays the music of Wes Montgomery plus an original by himself, the CD title "Tomorrow's Hours". It is only when you hear someone playing Wes Montgomery's tunes in their own style, and not copying Wes' style that you realise what a prolific composer he was. Joshua Breakstone is a seasoned performer who plays well in a trio format and has picked a selection of tunes that are familiar to us but are not the usual ones ~hat have been covered by so many others. Bassist Earl. Sau1s and drummer Keith Copeland make a fine contribution to this album and blend perfectly with the leader. It takes a brave man to interpret the challenging work of a great musician especially when he was a giant on your own instrument. Joshua Breakstone pulls this off magnificently, every track can be savoured and as a bonus we get to hear Joshua add his own fine composition "Tomorrow's Hours". For many years Joshua has favoured the Gibson L5 like Wes, he now also uses and endorses a Carl Barney custom made guitar. - Ian Macgregor - Jazz Guitar Society of Western Australia
