About the Artist
Janice Scroggins was born in Idabel, Oklahoma in 1955. She began performing on the piano at the age of three, and has been a piano player all her life. Her mother and grandmother both played piano or organ in church, and Janice credits her grandmother with teaching her the strong, stride-influenced left hand style she executes so ably. Janice lives in Portland, Oregon with her family, and is constantly in demand as a performer.

Product Description
This is a rendition of Scott Joplin's famous rags which stands out for its adherence to the composer's instruction that ragtime is "never to be played fast." Unlike the speeded-up ragtime performance style we like to call the "forty cups of coffee" style, Janice Scroggins delivers the music at a deliciously deliberate tempo, with a few extra flourishes on the left hand which, though not written into the page by the composer, are nonetheless faithful to Joplin's style. She also contributes an entirely original introduction to the "Maple Leaf Rag."
