Guitarist Dupree belongs to the soul blues elite for his work with King Curtis's band and his estimable studio playing in the company of Aretha Franklin ("Rock Steady" still rivets twenty-odd years later) and innumerable others. (Let's not forget his out-of-print mid-1970s feature record Teasin', either.) This recent headlining date has his well-ordered lines still impressing as models of creative fecundity and tastefulness, plus his working band comes by its complementary amiability naturally. Without a hint of false feeling, Dupree works restful miracles in "Could It Be." -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
