Editorial Reviews
As you might guess from the tongue-in-cheek title of the CD, words and phrases with a double meaning intrigue me. They add depth to our language and the ambiguities they create can be downright funny. As a musician, there have always been songs by certain composers that I enjoy playing more than others because of the humor they contain. I think a healthy dose of humor is a good quality for a song. With Piece Offering I wanted to write new tunes with enough personality and humor so that other musicians would enjoy playing them too.
This collection reflects my recent focus on composition. As a songwriter, my chief goal was to clearly state the melody of each song in the head and out chorus and improvise solos in between to showcase the group as a whole. I think my music fits somewhere between smooth jazz and modern jazz. I like to write songs that are melodically strong, harmonically and rhythmically interesting, but still basically easy to play. Hopefully this approach provides confidence building material for novice players while at the same time offers veteran players a deep well to explore. I hope that horn players, bassists, drummers and especially other songwriters will find this an interesting album, as well as other guitar players.
Product Description
This CD covers many different styles. It is a compilation of a dozen new jazz tunes played by a smokin' guitar/trumpet combo. This album is excellent for backyard cookouts and barbecues. This album will make a jazz fan out of you if you are not already one. You can tell these musicians had a blast making this CD, it shows. Lots of blues oriented material, some nice Latin pieces and a couple of real ethereal tunes too.
