Saxophonists Marco Eneidi and Glenn Spearman are no strangers to creating interesting and creative big band music. Eneidi has played with Cecil Taylor's ensemble and the Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra, while Spearman leads numerous oversized ensembles under his own name. The Marco Eneidi--Glenn Spearman Creative Music Orchestra is the collaboration between these 2 horn powerhouses and 20 or so musician friends. The six tracks that compose the CD (dubbed the American Jungle Suite in the CD booklet) show a wide range of playing styles. Eneidi composed all but two tracks--Cecil Taylor's "Naked Mirror" and Spearman's "Student Studies." Eneidi tracks discover subtleties often lost in big band arrangements. None, however, will sweep you off your feet. Spearman's contribution is the real high point: swirling horns and plenty of group solos make for a loud, in-your-face affair. --Jason Verlinde
