A real eye-opener of an album, Nobody's Home showcases a relatively unheralded Boston guitarist regular. Few non-jazz instrumental albums are able to hold listener attention for long, but this one does so by demonstrating impressive economy and versatility. Duke Levine and his sidemen explore a wide range of styles--from country to blues. And they do it by showing a little flash when the time is right, and pulling back when restraint is required. Half the tracks are solid Levine originals. The tasty covers include a slide- heavy version of Woody Guthrie's "Vigilante Man." A good many pickers could learn something from this collection. --Steve Stolder
