About the Artist
Soulful. Awesome. Pervasive. These words describe the dynamic sounds of internationally renowned R&B group Yamamanym. Created in the Spring of 2002, this super group has snapped the bonds of being described as merely another band from the Baltimore/DC area and are taking the international music scene by storm. Hand picked by Tre Barr (producer/writer) and Dennis Turner (music director/bass player), Yamamanym, was formed in 2002 as a collective of eclectic musicians and vocalists with diverse musical backgrounds. Combining sultry southern soulful sounds with a touch of uptown Jazz and downtown R&B swagger, healthy servings of soul, and pinches of gospel, YamamaNym has been stirring up audiences since their inception. With exceptionally vibrant vocalists, and perhaps some of the best live musicians in all the land, YamamaNym evoke feelings of 70s nostalgia and New Millennium attitude with their youthful appearance, yet seasoned performances, often being compared to acts of past and present the way they bring the overall YamamaNym experience to fans. Over the past year and a half, they have played on many stages abroad and have left their signature "soulful" style sticking to the noggins of unsuspecting audiences. Staying hungry and humble, paying their dues YamamaNym travels the map to bring real music to those who have been longing for it. The band members are from the Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland area. YamamaNyms debut album "2A.M." (Outta Control Entertainment 2003) has enjoyed international acclaim, reaching the hearts and minds of soul aficionados in the US over to the Canary Islands, from the U.K. to Japan, the bands strengths of Soul, R&B, Jazz and Hip-Hop help drive their musical vision to an ever expanding and embracing audience, it is a perfect blend of soul and jazz. Its whats been missing from todays popular R&B (Fan, CDBABY.com). Now with the second album entitled Due Time slated for a Spring 2005 release, audiences can expect funkier upbeat songs, with signature mid-tempo grooves and soul touching ballads. The music moves with pulsating rhythms by Marcus Jackson on drums and Dennis Turner on bass combined with melodies by Samuel Prather on keys. Dynamic vocal blessings of veteran Alison Carney along with newcomers Jason Hill, Liz Miller, and K.J. Dennis (doing double duty on second keys and vocals) add an awesome dimension to this band. Yamamanym recently wowed our military troops in Okinawa, Japan (mainland) and South Korea. They have shared the stage with such notable national recording artists as Rhian Benson, Fertile Ground, Cooolies Hot Box, and Lyfe at the African American Heritage Festival in Baltimore, Maryland. They have also performed at the legendary Soul Café in New York City and a wall shaking performance at the Hard Rock Café in Atlanta, Georgia. So take a listen and get back to the soulful funky sounds that are the roots of R&B and jazz. Take a listen to Yamamanym. For information contact Tre Barr, (410) 522-9722 tre@outtacontrolent.com
