There's not a whole lot known about Sir Richard Bishop, a founding member of the always-mysterious Sun City Girls. Bishop's solo effort Salvador Kali is a find, however, with nine guitar instrumentals that range in style from Les Paul to Django Reinhardt to ragtime. The sole piano composition, "Al Darazi," is a bit long at 14 minutes, but the rest of the record is a half-hour of fun and exotic guitar textures. Bishop's improvising is swell, overdubs aren't excessive, and a few of the latter tracks even sound like the fingerstylings of Fahey himself. --Jason Verlinde
